Unexpected Wildlife Refuge heading

URGENT alert to our New Jersey members. Please contact Senate Environment Committee chair Bob Smith and call upon him to allow a committee hearing on the reinstatement of the 30-year leghold trap ban in New Jersey. It is important to get this hearing and committee vote early in the year to move the legislation along as early as possible to prevent another year of legal trapping.

Please E-mail Senator Smith (SenBSmith@njleg.org) or call him at (732) 752-0770. It is important to do this now as the hearing date is the 29th of February. See our announcement here.

As background, the Senate and Assembly have reintroduced resolutions to reverse the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife’s 2015 decision to reinstate the use of barbaric leghold traps after a 30 year ban!

SCR11, sponsored by Senator Raymond J. Lesniak and Senator Kip Bateman was referred to the Environment and Energy committee. The chair of this committee is Senator Bob Smith. He did not post the resolution last session - we need your help in urging him to post on FEBRUARY 29th.

ACR25, sponsored by Assemblyperson Troy Singleton, Assemblyperson Reed Gusciora, and Assemblyperson Daniel Benson, was referred to the Regulatory Oversight and Reform committee. The chair of this committee is Assemblyperson Gusciora so we are look forward to the resolution being posted in his committee very soon.

In the meantime, please contact Senator Smith!
